12V LED undercabinet fixtures run on low-voltage DC power supplied by a remote transformer or driver, making them a standard choice in high-end residential kitchens, hospitality millwork, and retail display cabinetry where clean wiring and flexible layout are priorities. The 12V system keeps low-voltage class 2 wire running through the cabinet run, with only the transformer requiring a connection to line voltage.
Bar-style 12V fixtures mount to the underside of a cabinet with screws or adhesive clips and connect via small DC connectors that allow multiple units to be daisy-chained without any additional wiring at the fixture level. The driver handles the step-down from 120V, and the system can typically support eight to twelve linear feet of fixtures per circuit depending on wattage per foot. Output runs from 200 to 400 lumens per foot, which is appropriate for task lighting over standard residential countertops.
Color temperature selection is the same as for any residential application: 2700K for warm, incandescent-adjacent light; 3000K for a slightly crisper neutral white that reads well on natural stone and white countertops; 4000K for kitchens used heavily for task work or commercial prep areas.
