Emergency Battery Packs

Emergency battery packs provide the backup power supply that keeps exit signs and emergency light heads illuminated when AC power fails. They are available as integrated units sized to fit inside standard exit sign and emergency light fixtures, and as external add-on packs for fixtures that are not self-contained or need runtime beyond the standard 90-minute minimum.

About Emergency Battery Packs

Emergency battery packs provide the backup power supply that keeps exit signs and emergency light heads illuminated when AC power fails. They are available as integrated units sized to fit inside standard exit sign and emergency light fixtures, and as external add-on packs for fixtures that are not self-contained or need runtime beyond the standard 90-minute minimum.

Packs are specified by voltage and amp-hour rating, which together determine runtime. Standard code compliance requires a minimum of 90 minutes of illumination; extended-duration packs are available for high-criticality facilities or locations with long egress distances. Battery chemistry is most commonly sealed lead-acid (SLA) or NiCad, both rechargeable and field-replaceable.

Replacement packs are often a practical alternative to full fixture replacement when the housing and optics are still functional but the battery no longer holds adequate charge. Verify voltage and connector compatibility before ordering a replacement for an installed fixture.

For the fixtures that use these packs, see the Emergency Lights and Exit Signs categories. Where a single central battery powers multiple lamp assemblies at a distance, browse LED Remote Heads for compatible lamp units.
