MR16 lamps use a multifaceted reflector design with a 2-inch (50mm) diameter and a two-pin GU5.3 base. They are a standard choice for low-voltage track lighting systems, adjustable accent fixtures, and display case lighting in retail, hospitality, and gallery environments.
Traditional MR16 lamps run on 12V AC from a low-voltage transformer. LED versions are available in both 12V (for use with existing transformers) and line-voltage configurations that work directly on 120V without a transformer. When retrofitting an existing 12V halogen system, confirm that the transformer is compatible with the LED load, as some older magnetic transformers do not work well with LED.
Beam angles range from narrow spot (10 to 15 degrees) to flood (40 degrees). Color temperatures of 2700K, 3000K, and 4000K are most common, with 2700K and 3000K typical in accent and retail applications where warm light is preferred.
