Explosion proof flood lights are UL listed hazardous location fixtures designed to prevent ignition of flammable gases, vapors, dusts, or fibers that may be present in the surrounding atmosphere. They are rated for specific hazardous location classes and divisions (or zones) based on the type and concentration of hazardous material present.
Class I ratings cover locations with flammable gases or vapors, such as oil refineries, petrochemical facilities, tank farms, and fuel loading areas. Class II ratings apply to environments with combustible dusts, including grain elevators, flour mills, and certain pharmaceutical facilities. Flood light applications in these settings include perimeter security lighting, equipment yards, and general area lighting of outdoor hazardous locations.
